| I don't think it's any secret, my mother-in-law likes matched pairs of socks. She is none too happy when she does a load of laundry and discovers an odd sock left in the basket. At my house there are always multiple mismatched socks per load. Even if it was a load that isn't supposed to have socks there will still be at least one that was stuffed in a pant leg. It's just the way it goes when there are six kids. Today, however, there was a new one even for me.
This little guy was in the laundry. I don't think I'm going to find a match for this one. I also think that one of my girls was feeling a bit creative recently. :)
| Lizzie is just at the very beginning of trying to read. She has got some of her letter sounds down, but she runs into trouble when she tries to put them all together into a word. The word she was having trouble with today was RAM. She sounded it out R-A-M. She sounded it out again R-A-M. Then she smiled and said "RAT!" I told her, "No Lizzie. Look again. It needs to end with an M. She thought about it again and said, "The rat is good. MMM." She gets bonus points for trying, I guess. | | |
| Elizabeth said, "Hey Mom. What are you doing?" I answered, "I'm cleaning up the kitchen." She said, "Oh. Who's coming?" That's not cool.
I have done a horrible job of blogging this summer. Jeremy had his sinus surgery and just last Sunday Abbie had a seizure. Abbie has an EEG in the morning. If that looks good we will assume it was related to her bronchitis and nothing too big.
I got a new camera so maybe, just maybe, I'll do a better job of posting pictures.
| We are working on potty training Abbie again. I was starting to get a bit desperate and last night I told Abbie that if her potty comes out in the potty seat today she would get a piece of gum. This was huge for her. The older girls love gum and she is always told that she it too little to have it. The first thing this morning she started talking about her "potty train gum." We loaded up on the fluids and sat on the seat and waited and waited and waited. Finally she said, "My potty comed out in my diaper. Now I have gum?" I told her that it doesn't work that way. For the record she did eventually go and she did get her piece of gum which she chewed for about 3 minutes before she swallowed it. Ugh. | | |
| Today I had my first legal encounter! We were finishing up our lunch when the door bell ran. I told the girls, "Tell them you can't play right now." I thought it was the kids that live down the road. Lizzie, Courtney, and Abbie opened it and Lizzie said, "Um, Mom..." While Abbie backed up and said, "I'm scared." I went to check it out and found a lady in a uniform standing on the porch. She told me that she was here to follow up on the animal attack that happened in June. She was here about my dog. It didn't take too much work to figure out that there had been a mixup with the addresses. Mine should have been listed as a Witness to the attack, not the Offending home. I told the story. Jeremy backed it up. I was ready to call my neighbor to let her help me out too. When I pointed out the house with the bad dogs the lady recognized it as a "problem address" and said she was just there last week. She radioed in and talked about it with someone at the office and then apologized and left. Poor little Fiona got to stay here and didn't have to go to the lock up. :) Jeremy was ready to chase her down and tell her that we have some really mean cats that she should take with her... I don't think she would have bought it. She was very nice and easy to talk with but the whole thing made me a bit nervous. Our house number is 554. Their house number is 504. Things got mixed up that easily. I'm really glad it wasn't something more serious. | | |
